I just finished my 3 pt. log splitter and got it working for the very first time. It's equipped with a Prince LSR 3060-3 valve. That valve is just but fantastic, it a auto-retract valve and has a dual foward speed, the normal "full power" speed on my 4.5in cylinder is around 20 seconds for a full 24in. stroke but on a light or no load that foward speed drops down to about 4 seconds for a full stroke.
Believe me it really worths every penny.

Bienvenue!
Nice work, if I might suggest though, take some 1/4" round stock or even a heavy bead of weld and make an X across the foot plate of that splitter where the wood rests. It will prevent the wood from wanting to slide out to the side if the end cut is not absolutely perpendicular.
Best of luck. ....

The hydraulic cylinder on the rear blade is a 1.5in by 14in., it works very well, but I must say that I am not doing very intensive works with it, mainly grading my access road wich is about 250 feet long with a 10% slope so it as to be done every time there is a heavy rain...! ....

Thanks a lot Murf,
I ran into that problem yesterday when I tried it, I was so anxious to try it that I hadn't put any grip on the base plate, it will be corrected this very afternoon. ....

The log splitter I built once would be banned for all humanity, in fact I cut it up. But as Murf mentioned make real sure the base plate has something to grip the end of the log, I didn't and you know the rest. Just about ended up with an unplanned door in the side of a shed, and me as the door frame. ....
